Google Tag Manager integration
Marketing and analytics teams deploy tags, pixels and surveys on the academy from Google Tag Manager. Intellum loads your container on learner-facing pages and shares learning data for triggers. An admin adds the container ID.
Common uses of the Google Tag Manager integration
- Marketing ops managers attach survey or marketing tags to specific academy pages without engineering help.
- Analysts fire tags on learning events, such as a course completion, from Intellum’s data layer.
- Growth marketers run attribution across the academy and other web properties.
How the Google Tag Manager integration works
An admin enters the GTM container ID in Settings › Apps. Intellum loads the container on learner-facing pages, with the standard fallback for browsers without JavaScript, and passes data through the standard data layer.
GTM variables can read Intellum’s learning data layer, which carries user, activity, enrollment and course session values. Tags can then fire on learning triggers such as a course_completed event.
How to set up the Google Tag Manager integration
An Intellum admin adds the container ID. Tags, triggers and variables are then managed in GTM.
- A Google Tag Manager account and container
- Content security policies that allow Google’s tag domains
How the Intellum and Google Tag Manager integration handles access and data
- Connection: a client-side GTM container, loaded by container ID.
- Tag control: GTM controls which third-party tags and cookies run on learner pages.
- Data that moves: data layer values match GA4: user ID, activity, enrollment and custom user fields, with personally identifying fields redacted by default.
- Consent: with OneTrust on, scripts wait for the matching cookie category.
- Content security policy: must allow Google’s tag domains.
What to know about the Google Tag Manager integration
- Tags do not run inside embedded course content, so use Intellum reporting for in-course progress.
Questions about the Google Tag Manager integration

No. Once an admin adds the container ID in Settings › Apps, marketers manage tags, triggers and variables in GTM. Check that your content security policies allow Google’s tag domains.
Yes, when OneTrust is on. The GTM container loads only after a learner accepts the matching cookie category. The OneTrust integration blocks scripts and does not support Google Consent Mode.
