Credly integration for digital badges

Learners earn Credly digital badges automatically when they complete an Intellum activity. An admin authorizes Credly once, then content editors assign badges to activities.

How it connects
Native via Credly Organization ID and token
Who sets it up
Admin authorizes, editors add badges
What moves
One-way: completions out to Credly

Common uses of the Credly integration

  • Certification owners award the matching Credly badge when a learner passes a certification activity.
  • Program owners keep an existing Credly badge program running while they consolidate learning in Intellum.

How the Credly integration works

An admin authorizes Credly in Settings › Apps and enters the Credly Organization ID and Authorization Token. From then on, every admin with content-editing permission can assign a Credly badge to an activity.

When a learner completes that activity, Intellum issues the badge through Credly. Data moves one way, from Intellum to Credly.

How to set up the Credly integration

An admin authorizes Credly in Settings › Apps. Content editors then assign badges to activities. Setup is self-serve.

  • A Credly account
  • The Credly Organization ID and Authorization Token
  • Badge templates in Credly to assign to activities
Security and IT

How the Intellum and Credly integration handles access and data

  • Authentication: a Credly Organization ID and Authorization Token.
  • Data that moves: one way, from Intellum to Credly, when a learner completes an activity with a badge assigned.
  • Personal data: Intellum shares the learner’s identity with Credly so Credly can issue the badge.
  • Permissions: only admins with content-editing permission can assign badges to activities.

What to know about the Credly integration

  • Badges issue when a learner completes an activity that has a badge assigned, so assign the badge before learners start.
  • Intellum also has native credentials, which new programs can use without a Credly account.

Questions about the Credly integration

How do learners earn Credly badges in Intellum?

By completing an Intellum activity that has a Credly badge assigned. Intellum then issues the badge through Credly automatically, so assign badges before learners start.

Credly is a digital badge service. Intellum connects to it so organizations with an existing Credly badge program keep it running while they consolidate learning in Intellum.

After an admin authorizes Credly in Settings › Apps, every admin with content-editing permission can assign a Credly badge to an activity. Setup is self-serve and needs no developer work.

Intellum shares the learner’s identity with Credly when that learner completes an activity with a Credly badge assigned, so Credly can issue the badge. Nothing flows back from Credly to Intellum.

No. New programs can issue credentials natively in Intellum with no Credly account. The Credly integration fits organizations that already run a Credly badge program.
