Microsoft Teams integration for live training

Admins create standard Microsoft Teams meetings from an Intellum course session, instructors join as presenters and attendance comes back as learner progress. An admin authorizes one Microsoft account for the site.

How it connects
Native via Microsoft OAuth, one account per site
Who sets it up
Admin who can create Teams meetings
What moves
Two-way: meetings out, attendance in

Common uses of the Microsoft Teams integration

  • Admins save a course session and get a Teams meeting created, updated or deleted to match it.
  • Instructors join as presenters because Intellum finds them in the Microsoft 365 organization by email.
  • L&D leaders on Microsoft 365 track completion from Teams attendance in each learner’s record.

How the Microsoft Teams integration works

An admin authorizes one Microsoft account for the site, and that account organizes every Teams meeting the site creates. Saving a course session with Microsoft Teams as the location creates the meeting. Renaming, rescheduling or deleting the session updates or deletes it.

Intellum looks up instructors in the same Microsoft 365 organization by email and adds them as presenters. After the session, Intellum pulls the Teams attendance report hourly for up to 24 hours and matches attendees to enrollments by email.

How to set up the Microsoft Teams integration

An admin with a Microsoft account that can create online meetings authorizes once. If your Microsoft tenant requires it, a Microsoft admin consents to the requested permissions first.

  • Microsoft 365 organization with Teams meeting licenses
  • Instructors in the same Microsoft 365 organization
  • Instructor emails that match exactly between Intellum and Microsoft 365
Security and IT

How the Intellum and Microsoft Teams integration handles access and data

  • Authentication: Microsoft OAuth at the site level, with one Microsoft account per site.
  • Permissions requested: create, update and delete online meetings, look up users by email, read attendance reports and stay signed in.
  • Account ownership: use a service or shared admin account. Removing the authorizing user stops meeting management.
  • Personal data: attendance data identifies the learner and lands in the learner’s Intellum record.
  • Disconnecting: stops updates and attendance sync for existing meetings.

What to know about the Microsoft Teams integration

  • Standard Teams meetings only. Teams webinars and live events aren’t supported.
  • Instructors outside the authorizing Microsoft 365 organization can’t be added as presenters.
  • Joins more than an hour before the start don’t count toward attendance.

Questions about the Microsoft Teams integration

Can Microsoft Teams integrate with an LMS?

Yes. In Intellum, saving a course session with Microsoft Teams as its location creates a standard Teams meeting, adds instructors as presenters and later brings attendance back as learner progress.

Any attendance sets the learner to Passed, with progress equal to attended time divided by scheduled duration. Learners stay In progress until attendance arrives. After the retries end, absent learners are marked No-show on the final session.

No. Intellum creates standard Teams meetings only, without Teams webinar or live event support. For webinar sessions that return attendance, use Zoom, Webex or GoTo Webinar.

Use a service or shared admin account that can create online meetings. That account organizes every Teams meeting the site creates, and removing the authorizing user stops meeting management.
